Outer Banks Season 5 Wraps Filming as Netflix Prepares Final Chapter

Netflix’s hit adventure series Outer Banks is officially nearing the end. The streaming platform has confirmed that filming for Season 5, the show’s final season, has wrapped, with the series expected to return sometime in 2026.

The announcement marks the conclusion of a production period that lasted roughly six months, following the release of Season 4. Series creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke spoke with Netflix’s Tudum about bringing the long-running story to a close, describing Season 5 as the final step in the Pogues’ journey.

Season 4 ended on a dramatic note, raising the stakes for the final season. The Pogues successfully uncovered the mythical Blue Crown, but the victory came with a major loss. Fan-favorite J.J., played by Rudy Pankow, was killed in Morocco, setting up a revenge-driven storyline heading into Season 5.

The remaining group is expected to pursue Chandler Groff in Lisbon, aiming to reclaim the treasure while seeking justice for their fallen friend. Meanwhile, another major development from Season 4 includes Sarah Cameron, portrayed by Madelyn Cline, revealing that she is pregnant, adding personal stakes to the final adventure alongside John B., played by Chase Stokes. Since debuting on Netflix in 2020, Outer Banks has grown into one of the platform’s most recognizable original series. The show blends teen drama with treasure-hunt action, following the working-class Pogues as they clash with wealthy rivals known as the Kooks while unraveling long-running mysteries tied to family, power, and survival.

Across four seasons and 50 episodes, the series has accumulated nearly 200 million views, according to Netflix, and holds an overall 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting generally positive reception from both critics and audiences.

While an exact release date has not yet been announced, Netflix has confirmed that Outer Banks Season 5 will premiere in 2026, with a late-year release considered likely given the recent production wrap. With long-running storylines converging and the series positioned for a definitive ending, the final season is expected to focus on closure, consequences, and the ultimate fate of the Pogues.
