Chicago rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, is facing serious federal charges related to a 2022 murder conspiracy. The Grammy-nominated artist was arrested on Thursday in Broward County, Florida, and is currently being held without bond. Federal authorities accuse him of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot that targeted fellow rapper Tyquian Bowman, also known as Quando Rondo.

According to a criminal complaint filed in a Los Angeles federal court, the 32-year-old rapper is charged with conspiracy to use interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire, resulting in death. Five alleged members of Lil Durk's rap collective, "Only the Family" (OTF), are also facing charges in connection with the case.

Court documents reveal that the murder-for-hire plot dates back to August 2022. Prosecutors allege that Lil Durk ordered the hit on Quando Rondo following the killing of his close friend in a 2020 Atlanta nightclub incident, for which Rondo’s associate was believed responsible. The conspiracy escalated when Lil Durk’s associates traveled from Chicago to Los Angeles to carry out the murder.

On August 19, 2022, the group tracked Quando Rondo to a gas station, where they ambushed his vehicle, firing at least 18 rounds. Although Rondo survived the attack, a family member traveling with him was fatally shot.FBI Special Agent Sarah Corcoran’s affidavit claims that Lil Durk was directly involved in financing the assassination attempt. Records indicate that a phone number linked to the rapper sent a message to one of the co-conspirators warning them not to book any flights under his name. These communications, combined with surveillance footage and travel logs, have played a critical role in building the case against him.

The federal indictment names five co-defendants—Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston—all charged with conspiracy and murder-for-hire.

This isn't the first time Lil Durk has faced legal scrutiny. The rapper was also sued earlier this month in connection to the fatal 2020 shooting of rapper FBG Duck outside a Gold Coast store in Chicago. Additionally, authorities suggest that Lil Durk's motive for the murder plot against Quando Rondo may be linked to the death of another Chicago rapper, King Von, in Atlanta in 2020. Rondo’s crew was reportedly involved in that fatal altercation.

Lil Durk is scheduled to appear in court to face these charges, and the case continues to unfold as federal prosecutors gather more evidence against the rapper and his alleged co-conspirators.
