Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was placed on injured reserve (IR) following a concussion in September, is not expected to return to the field this week. Head coach Mike McDaniel shared the update during a press conference on Monday, stating that while Tagovailoa is likely to play again this year, his immediate return remains uncertain.

Tagovailoa, who suffered the concussion during a game against the Buffalo Bills on September 15, was placed on IR shortly afterward. Under league rules, the earliest he could return to practice is October 23, but McDaniel confirmed that the quarterback won’t be back this week.
"As of now, he’s not playing this week," McDaniel said. "We’re optimistic he’ll return to football in 2024, but it’s a matter of letting the process play out."
Given his history of concussions, Tagovailoa has been consulting with medical experts to assess his future in the NFL. However, reports indicate that the 26-year-old has no plans to retire and will continue to seek further medical advice.
McDaniel emphasized the importance of patience in Tagovailoa's recovery: "We’ll be thorough this week in our assessments, and we’ll re-evaluate after that."
Since Tagovailoa's absence, the Dolphins have struggled offensively, going 0-3 in their last three games. Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley, acquired after Tagovailoa's injury, has faced difficulties, throwing for just 290 yards with no touchdowns and one interception over the past two games.
The Dolphins had a bye last weekend and will be back in action against the Indianapolis Colts on the road next Sunday.
