Patrick Kane Is Coming Home to Chicago

Patrick Kane is officially heading back to where it all started.

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed Kane to a two-year, $16 million contract, bringing one of the greatest players in franchise history back to Chicago. The deal carries an $8 million annual cap hit and includes a full no-movement clause.

Kane returning to Chicago is a full-circle moment. The Blackhawks selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, and he quickly became one of the faces of the franchise. Kane helped Chicago capture three Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015, including scoring the unforgettable overtime goal that clinched the 2010 championship.

During his first run with the Blackhawks, Kane recorded 446 goals and 779 assists for 1,225 points. He also won the Calder Trophy, Hart Trophy, Art Ross Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award and the 2013 Conn Smythe Trophy.

For Blackhawks fans this move means much more than what Kane can provide on the ice. No. 88 was at the center of one of the greatest eras in Chicago sports history, and many believed his 2023 trade could have been the final time they saw him wearing a Blackhawks sweater.

Kane's first chapter in Chicago ended in February 2023 when the rebuilding Blackhawks traded him to the New York Rangers. After his short stint in New York, Kane spent the next three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. Even at 37 years old, Kane showed he still had something left, recording 16 goals and 41 assists for 57 points in 67 games during the 2025-26 season.
