The Nissan Altima is officially nearing the end of the road. After more than 30 years as one of America's best-known midsize sedans, Nissan has confirmed it will discontinue the Altima as the automaker continues reshaping its U.S. lineup.

The Altima first arrived in 1993 and quickly became a popular choice for drivers looking for an affordable, reliable family sedan. Over the years, it competed against rivals like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord while earning a reputation as one of Nissan's best-selling vehicles.
Nissan executives said the decision is part of a broader strategy to simplify the company's lineup and place a greater focus on newer products. The redesigned Sentra is expected to become Nissan's primary sedan in the United States, while the company also continues investing in SUVs, crossovers and electrified vehicles.
