Hulu has officially announced the release date for its upcoming Malcolm in the Middle revival, confirming that the four-episode reboot will premiere in April 2026. Titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, the limited series arrives nearly two decades after the original sitcom concluded its run on network television.

The reboot is scheduled to debut on April 10, 2026, and will be available to stream on Hulu, including via Hulu on Disney+. The release timing closely aligns with the anniversary of the original series’ finale, which aired in May 2006.
Several core cast members from the original series are returning for the reboot. Frankie Muniz reprises his role as Malcolm, now portrayed as an adult navigating life years after his childhood as a gifted prodigy. His on-screen parents, Lois and Hal, will again be played by Jane Kaczmarek and Bryan Cranston, respectively. Also returning are Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield, who played Malcolm’s brothers Francis and Reese. One notable change involves the character Dewey. Erik Per Sullivan, who portrayed Dewey in the original series, will not appear in the reboot. The role has been recast with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, as Per Sullivan has stepped away from acting and is reportedly focused on graduate studies.
Unlike the original series—which ran for seven seasons and 151 episodes on Fox Broadcasting Company the reboot is designed as a limited event rather than a full continuation. Hulu has described the project as a reunion-style series that revisits the characters while maintaining the tone and humor that defined the original show.
Originally premiering in 2000, Malcolm in the Middle became known for its single camera format, fourth-wall breaks, and unconventional portrayal of a working class family.
The reboot aims to reflect how those characters and their chaotic family dynamic have evolved over time.
While plot details remain limited, Hulu has positioned Life’s Still Unfair as a character-driven follow-up rather than a full reboot. With its short episode count and returning cast, the series is expected to focus on closure, nostalgia, and updated perspectives rather than long-term storytelling.
