Richardson’s journey to the Paris Olympics has been marked by resilience and determination. On Friday, she advanced to the semifinals despite an untied shoe and a stumble at the start, still managing to finish first. She continued her stellar performance in the semifinals, recording a time of 10.86 seconds, which propelled her into Saturday’s final.
In 2021, Richardson was one of the favorites for the Tokyo Olympics after her electrifying victory in the 100 meters at the US trials. However, she faced a setback due to a one-month suspension for a positive THC test, which led to her missing the Games.
Richardson's 2023 season was a testament to her strength and skill. At the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, she set a championship record with a time of 10.65 seconds in the 100 meters. She also captured a bronze medal in the 200 meters, finishing behind Jamaica's Shericka Jackson and fellow American Gabby Thomas. Additionally, she anchored the US team to gold in the 4x100 meter relay, solidifying her status as a leading figure in track and field.
