Rob Gronkowski is officially retiring where it all began — in New England. The four-time Super Bowl champion and future Hall of Famer signed a one-day contract with the New England Patriots to retire as a member of the franchise that made him a household name. The announcement, confirmed by the team and Gronkowski’s representatives, marks the end of an iconic NFL career defined by dominance, energy, and personality. Gronkowski spent nine of his 11 NFL seasons with the Patriots, forming one of the most prolific quarterback-tight end duos in league history alongside Tom Brady.

Drafted by New England in 2010, Gronkowski quickly became the gold standard for tight ends. He earned four All-Pro selections, made five Pro Bowls, and was a key part of three Super Bowl victories with the Patriots. Known for his unmatched combination of size, speed, and hands, Gronk finished his career with 621 receptions, 9,286 receiving yards, and 93 touchdowns.

After briefly retiring in 2019, Gronk reunited with Brady in Tampa Bay for the 2020 season, adding another Super Bowl ring to his résumé before stepping away again in 2022. “New England will always be my home,” Gronkowski said in a statement. “The organization, the fans, and the memories we created together will always mean everything to me. I wanted to retire as a Patriot because that’s where my football journey truly became legendary.”

Patriots owner Robert Kraft praised Gronk’s impact both on and off the field, calling him “one of the most beloved players to ever wear a Patriots uniform.”

Beyond his stats, Gronkowski leaves behind a cultural legacy. His larger-than-life personality, signature “Gronk Spike,” and post-football ventures — from WWE appearances to media and business — made him one of the most recognizable athletes in the world.

His one-day contract brings his story full circle, officially closing a chapter that helped define one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history.
