In a significant roster adjustment, the Seattle Seahawks have waived their leading tackler, inside linebacker Tyrel Dodson, following a string of challenging losses. Dodson, who started all nine games this season, joined Seattle in March and contributed consistently on defense. This move signals the Seahawks’ intent to revamp their inside linebacker corps as they look for stronger defensive results.

Dodson’s release follows Seattle’s recent struggles, where they’ve lost five of their last six games, dropping to 4-5 and the bottom of the NFC West. Head Coach Mike Macdonald had hinted that changes could come after the team’s self-scouting session during their bye week, saying all options were “on the table.” The shake-up also follows the Seahawks’ previous linebacker trade, which brought Ernest Jones IV from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for Jerome Baker and a draft pick. Jones took over the middle linebacker role, pushing Dodson to the weak side, but defensive issues persisted.

Despite Dodson’s efforts, Seattle’s defense has faced difficulties, especially in run defense. They ranked near the bottom of the league, allowing over 148 rushing yards per game. Now on waivers, Dodson could be picked up by another team, which would relieve Seattle of the remaining $1 million on his salary and other bonuses.

To fill the roster gap, Seattle promoted cornerback Josh Jobe from the practice squad and claimed nose tackle Brandon Pili off waivers from the Miami Dolphins. Pili, a former USC standout, brings fresh potential to Seattle’s defense after recording four tackles over two seasons with Miami. Additionally, safety K’Von Wallace, who suffered an ankle injury in Week 9, was placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least four games.

In more positive news, the Seahawks remain hopeful that wide receiver DK Metcalf will return this Sunday against the 49ers after sitting out two games due to an MCL sprain. Right tackle Abraham Lucas is also expected to make his season debut, returning from knee surgery, and must be activated by midweek. The Seahawks also added veteran tight end N'Keal Harry to their practice squad to bring extra depth as they face a tough stretch in the season.

Seattle’s strategic adjustments, including Dodson’s release and fresh talent acquisitions, underscore the team’s push to strengthen its roster for the challenges ahead.
