After 14 seasons in the NFL, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson is set to trade the football field for the television studio. Multiple reports indicate Wilson is finalizing a deal with CBS Sports to join the network's popular Sunday pregame show, The NFL Today, beginning with the 2026 NFL season.

The move marks a significant career transition for the 10-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, who spent the majority of his career with the Seattle Seahawks before later stints with the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants.

Wilson reportedly considered continuing his playing career and had received interest from teams seeking a veteran backup quarterback, but ultimately chose television over another season on the sidelines.

Wilson is expected to replace former NFL MVP Matt Ryan, who recently departed CBS to become president of football operations for the Atlanta Falcons. On The NFL Today, Wilson will join a veteran cast that includes James Brown, Bill Cowher, and Nate Burleson.

The transition to broadcasting may not come as a surprise. Wilson made guest appearances on CBS programming during the 2025 season and received positive reviews for his analysis and on-camera presence.

While Wilson has not officially announced his retirement from football, his decision to join CBS signals the start of a new chapter.

Instead of leading game-winning drives on Sundays, one of the NFL's most accomplished quarterbacks will now be breaking down the action for millions of viewers across the country.

Expect to see a very analtyical breakdown of football from Wilson as he is often viewed as a very bright football mind.
