Jets Sign Mario Ferraro

The Winnipeg Jets strengthened their defensive corps on the opening days of NHL free agency by signing veteran defenseman Mario Ferraro to a three-year, $12 million contract.

Ferraro's new deal carries an average annual value of $4 million and adds an experienced, defensive-minded blueliner to a Jets team looking to remain among the Western Conference contenders.

The 27-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his NHL career with the San Jose Sharks, appearing in all 82 games during the 2025-26 campaign.

In an interview by Yahoo Sports, Ferraro expressed that he was "Ready to Play in a Genuine Hockey Town." This kind of statement energizes a fanbase, and they have every reason to be thrilled.

Ferraro finished the season with seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points while leading the Sharks with 150 blocked shots. Ferraro also logged a team-high 277:11 of shorthanded ice time, ranking third in the NHL in total penalty-kill minutes.

Originally selected by the Sharks in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft, Ferraro has played 490 career NHL games, recording 24 goals and 90 assists for 114 points. He has built a reputation as a dependable shutdown defenseman capable of handling heavy minutes in all situations.
