Derrick Rose Honored as an NBA 2K27 Cover Athlete
Derrick Rose is back on the cover of NBA 2K.
The Chicago Bulls legend has officially been named one of the cover athletes for NBA 2K27, appearing on the limited-time Ultra Edition of the game. Rose joins San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama and Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark as this year’s three cover athletes.
For Rose, the cover is another way to celebrate a career that made him one of the most exciting point guards of his generation. The Chicago native was selected No. 1 overall by the Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft and quickly became the face of the franchise.
Rose’s career is often remembered as one of the NBA’s most significant “what if” narratives. He made history during the 2010-11 season by becoming the youngest MVP in NBA history at just 22 years old. Additionally, Rose was a three-time NBA All-Star. However, his career trajectory was altered by a series of major injuries.
He tore his ACL during the 2012 playoffs and subsequently faced multiple knee injuries that sidelined him for extended periods. Rose was never able to fully regain his MVP-level form, leaving fans to speculate about what his career might have been like if he had remained healthy. Despite these challenges, Rose adapted his game and continued to play in the NBA for many years, making his return to the 2K cover a meaningful tribute to his career.
NBA 2K27 is scheduled to release worldwide on Sept. 4 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Players who purchase the Deluxe or Ultra Edition will receive early access beginning Aug. 28.
