Philadelphia 76ers' point guard, Cam Payne, found himself in legal trouble early this morning. The Scottsdale Police Department reported that Payne was arrested for refusing to identify himself during an incident near 68th Street and Chaparral Road.

Officers responded to a disturbance call at 2:44 a.m. Upon arrival, they encountered Payne along with another individual. When asked for his identification, Payne provided a false name. This led to charges of failing to provide his truthful identity and giving a false report to law enforcement.
Despite the serious nature of the charges, Payne was booked and subsequently released from the Scottsdale City Jail. Details regarding the initial disturbance that prompted the police response have not been disclosed by the authorities. Payne, 29, has had a notable NBA journey. He gained prominence during the Phoenix Suns' impressive run in the 2021 NBA Finals. During his tenure with the Suns, Payne averaged 9.8 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.6 rebounds across 174 games. Known for his dynamic play, he played a crucial backup role to Chris Paul, especially during the 2020 NBA bubble and the subsequent season.
In a series of moves, Payne was traded by Phoenix to the San Antonio Spurs in July 2023. However, after being released by the Spurs, he joined the Milwaukee Bucks. Later, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, alongside a second-round pick, in exchange for Patrick Beverley.
As Payne approaches free agency, this incident could impact his professional prospects. The Philadelphia 76ers have yet to release a statement regarding Payne’s arrest..
