In a surprising move, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson has agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Giants, reportedly worth up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed.

he 10-time Pro Bowl selection made the choice to join the Giants after discussions with several other teams, including the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wilson’s new agreement with the Giants comes after a mixed 2024 season. Having been with the Steelers last season, he was dealing with injuries early on but finished with a solid 6-5 record. Despite a slow finish to the season, Wilson’s performance in his first seven starts—going 6-1—showed he still had a lot to offer.
This move eliminates the Giants as a potential landing spot for Aaron Rodgers, who had also been rumored to be in talks with the team. Now, with Wilson’s signing, Rodgers is left to consider his options, likely including the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were also in the hunt for a quarterback. Wilson's journey in the NFL has been remarkable, especially during his 10 years with the Seattle Seahawks, where he led the team to a Super Bowl XLVIII victory. His career stats are impressive, with over 46,000 passing yards, 350 touchdowns, and a solid completion rate of 64.7%.
This new chapter with the Giants is seen as a fresh start for Wilson, and he expressed his excitement about the opportunity to return to MetLife Stadium—where he once lifted the Lombardi Trophy as a Seattle Seahawk. Now, as the Giants’ projected starting quarterback, Wilson will aim to lead the team back to playoff contention. The Giants’ quarterback room is now bolstered with the addition of Wilson, as well as backup Jameis Winston, who signed a two-year deal with the team. Winston, who had a successful stint as a starter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will provide veteran depth behind Wilson. The Giants also have Tommy DeVito, who has been with the team for the past two seasons.
Wilson’s experience, leadership, and Super Bowl pedigree make him a strong addition to the Giants’ roster, as they continue to rebuild and aim for postseason success. Giants fans are hopeful that Wilson can bring the same energy and skill that led him to a successful career in Seattle.
