The Pittsburgh Pirates have been dealt another setback involving rookie sensation Konnor Griffin.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, Griffin has been diagnosed with a torn tendon in his left ring finger after suffering the injury on a diving catch during Sunday's 11-5 win over the Washington Nationals.

While Griffin finished the game and even delivered a two-run single afterward, further testing revealed the extent of the damage.

The injury is expected to sideline Griffin for at least a month if the Pirates opt for rehabilitation, which is considered the most likely course of action. Although playing through the injury remains a possibility, Pittsburgh is expected to prioritize the 20-year-old's long-term health after he recently returned from a right forearm strain that had already cost him nearly a month earlier this season.

The latest injury is another frustrating hurdle for one of baseball's brightest young stars. Griffin has emerged as a cornerstone of the Pirates' future during his rookie campaign, making his potential absence another significant blow for Pittsburgh as it navigates the remainder of the season.

The club is expected to provide a more definitive recovery timeline in the coming days.
