The Carolina Hurricanes are Stanley Cup champions once again.
Carolina shut out the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final on Sunday night, clinching the franchise's second championship and first since 2006. The Hurricanes finished off the series in six games, capping off a dominant postseason run with a 16-3 playoff record.
Taylor Hall opened the scoring early for Carolina, while Jackson Blake and Nikolaj Ehlers added insurance goals. Goaltender Brandon Bussi was outstanding between the pipes, stopping all 22 shots he faced to record the championship-clinching shutout.
The victory marked a long-awaited Stanley Cup for Hall, who finally lifted hockey's most prestigious trophy after playing for seven different NHL organizations during his career.
Captain Jordan Staal was named the recipient of the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The veteran leader scored in five of the six games during the Final and played a crucial role throughout Carolina's postseason run.
The championship also cemented the legacy of head coach Rod Brind'Amour, who captained the Hurricanes to their first Stanley Cup in 2006 and now adds another title behind the bench exactly 20 years later.
