Kadarius Toney, a former NFL wide receiver known for his time with the New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, and Cleveland Browns, was arrested on February 6, 2025, in Douglasville, Georgia. The 26-year-old faces charges of aggravated assault by strangulation and obstruction of emergency calls

The charges stem from a January 14 incident at Toney's residence. According to court documents, Toney allegedly placed his hand around a woman's neck, applying pressure that impeded her breathing. The victim reportedly sustained visible injuries, including red marks and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes. Toney is also accused of seizing the woman's phone to prevent her from contacting emergency services.
Following the incident, an arrest warrant was issued on January 15. Toney was apprehended on February 6 and booked into the Douglas County Jail. He was charged with aggravated assault by strangulation and obstructing or harassing emergency calls. Bond was set at $25,000 for each charge, totaling $50,000, which Toney posted, leading to his release on February 7.
Toney's NFL career began when he was selected 20th overall by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was later traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he contributed to their Super Bowl victory two years ago. In 2024, Toney signed with the Cleveland Browns but was released in December following a series of on-field mistakes and disciplinary issues. Over his career, Toney has recorded 760 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Aggravated assault by strangulation is a serious offense in Georgia, carrying potential penalties of imprisonment and fines upon conviction. Obstruction of emergency calls further complicates the legal situation, as it involves hindering a victim's ability to seek immediate assistance.
As of now, there is no information regarding upcoming court dates or legal proceedings. Toney's legal representatives have not issued a public statement concerning the charges. The case remains under investigation, and further details may emerge as it progresses through the legal system.
