Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, made his highly anticipated NBA preseason debut for the Los Angeles Lakers last night, logging 16 minutes of action against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Though the Lakers fell 124-107, Bronny showcased his defensive skills with three blocked shots, adding two points, one rebound, and one assist.

While his father, LeBron James, sat out the game after an intense training camp, Bronny took the court and made an impact. He struggled early, missing his first five shots, but scored his first NBA points with a layup in the final minute of the game, thanks to a pass from fellow rookie Dalton Knecht. Despite the offensive challenges, Bronny's defensive hustle was a highlight, including a chase-down block that drew comparisons to his father’s famous defensive plays.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick praised Bronny’s efforts during practice, which earned him a spot in the Lakers’ preseason opener. Bronny, the Lakers’ second-round pick, is expected to play through the preseason and will likely spend much of the upcoming regular season with the G League’s South Bay Lakers.
LeBron, who will likely return for Sunday’s game against Phoenix—coincidentally Bronny's 20th birthday—was seen advising his son during a timeout. However, he largely gave Bronny space to focus on the game.
Although Bronny’s debut didn’t light up the scoreboard, his defense and hustle left an impression, showing promise as he embarks on his professional career.
